This group is phenomenal. Their voices and harmonies are respectable and they sound and examine substantial. This cd is really trustworthy and it’s been a long wait to actually ’see’ them originate. I’m not usually a fan of opera, but these guys bring about something special to this genre and some of it might be to do with their search for and their youth, but I don’t contemplate anyone could really assert the talent these guys have. Glance, Simon is usually legal. This is a large dvd.

Great DVD. I loved the fact that we heard the chronicle slow the creation of Il Divo. To hear about their backgrounds and how they began to blend their voices and manufacture a sound that is truly appreciated by all is astounding to me. They continue to salvage better as they branch out into a slightly different sound as each CD/DVD comes out. I can’t compare their voices to any I’ve heard before. Simon Cowell is a genious when it comes to finding unique talent and he was lawful on the trace when he had this vision for Il Divo. I recommend this DVD to all who wish to look and luxuriate in objective what it takes to bag unknown talent, realize their potential and have a vision as to how that talent will lift the world by surprise. Il Divo did and will continue to for years to arrive.

This is a elegant film, well directed by Hugh Hudson in his theatrical film debut. It features the honest life record of two Olympic runners, Eric Liddell (Ian Charleson) and Harold Abrahams (Ben Substandard), who ran for Broad Britain in the 1924 Olympic Games and brought home the Gold.

The film tells the myth of these two individuals, who are as different from each other as different can be, and explores their personal drive and reasons for running. Eric Liddell is a proper Scot and a fervid Presbyterian (He would save John Knox to shame!) . The son of a missionary and himself a missionary by avocation, he runs because “God made him speedily for a reason”. His running is a reconciliation of his faith and his passion, which is running. He runs for the glory of God. His faith always remains constant and pre-eminent in his life. His devotion to it causes some controversy during the Olympics, as a consequence of the stance he takes when he discovers that the preliminary mete for the 200 metre rush would be held on a Sunday. Liddell simply refuses to bustle on the Sabbath! Luckily for Ample Britain, Lord Andrew Lindsay (Nigel Havers), a gentleman and fellow competitor, graciously steps in and, as he had already won a gold medal in the hurdles, gives him his situation in the 400 metre high-tail, which would purchase site on a Thursday. This would never happen today in the dog eat dog world of competitive sports, powerful less in the Olympics of today!

Harold Abrahams is completely different. A secular Jew and Cambridge scholar, he studies in the bastion of upper crust British society, struggling to fit in but always remaining the proverbial outsider. He has a passion for running that is motivated by his passion for winning. In his world, God has nothing to do with it. Winning is merely an affirmation of himself in a world that he believes thinks less of him because he is a Jew. Consequently, his desire to regain is superceded only by his awe of losing. When two Cambridge dons, the Master of Trinity, played by the slow John Gielgud, along with the Master of Caius, meet with Abrahams, they are concerned that his hiring of a personal professional trainer, Sam Mussabini (Ian Holm), to assist him with his running is not quite in keeping with the amateur tradition of the Cambridge gentleman. Implicit in their criticism is an undercurrent of anti-Semitism, one to which Abrahams does not purchase marvelous. It is that moment that defines what makes Abrahams accelerate.

This is ultimately a chronicle about faith. With Liddell, it is about his faith in God. With Abrahams, it is about his faith in himself. Both were propelled to Olympic glory by it. It is a memoir sublimely told, though a minute uninteresting at times. It is not an action type of sports movie. It speaks gently of a time long passed, when the Olympics was truly the bastion of amateurs. It is astonishing to peer track events of the Olympics of 1924 depicted in all their simplicity…no flash, no glitz, no gimmicks. The runners ran on dirt tracks. They all carried spades in which to dig their footholds for their starting “blocks”, something that surprised me. This attention to detail permeates the entire film, and its evocation of a bygone era makes the film linger in one’s memory long after it has ended.

Ian Charleson gives a valuable performances as Eric Liddell, infusing him with a gentleness and purity of spirit that is compelling, while Ben Heinous plays Harold Abrahams with an intensity and singularity of purpose that is riveting. Their stellar performances, as well as those given by the satisfactory supporting cast, coupled with glorious cinematography and the well-behaved direction of Hugh Hudson, compose this film generous of its 1981 Academy Award for Best Describe. The sparkling and soaring, synthesized music of Vangelis also won an Academy Award and went on to become a number one hit in the pop charts in 1982.

The athletes of the British running team who went with hope in their hearts and wings in their heels in the VIII Olympiad in Paris in 1924 is the focus of this movie, but there’s also the dynamics of what it means to be English, and the reconciliation of one’s soul and religious convictions in the New Age. Three of them are students from Cambridge. There is the still and soft-spoken Aubrey Montague, Lord Andrew Lindsey, and Harold Abrahams. As the head of Caius (pronounced Keys) College tells them when they first relieve in 1919, they are the first post-war generation who have inherited the dreams of a generation that perished on the fields of France, a generation embodying “goodness, zeal,…and bright promise.”

Buy,Download, Or Stream Chariots of Fire! Click Here

The two main athletes here are a dissimilarity from one another. One is Harold Abrahams, a Jew who wants to be seen as English as the fellow next to him. Hence his enrolling in all these clubs and fraternities in Caius College, from track, tennis, and even the Gilbert and Sullivan glee club-he wants to enter the Christian, Anglo-Saxon corridors of power, i.e. the feeble school tie. He succeeds in getting to an English girl in the gain of Sybil Gordon, who doesn’t mind he’s Jewish. He can race like the wind, and nothing would fulfill his dream of being English more than winning so he’ll be celebrated, but he’s so driven, hinging so remarkable of his success on his winning, that he acts like its his fill funeral when he loses in a bustle. He engages Sam Mussabini, a private and professional coach, which is contrary to the implied rules of Cambridge. When the heads of Trinity House and Caius House, (Sir John Gielgud and Lindsay Anderson) utilize their prep-school mentality to chastise him, saying Cambridge prided itself on the amateur attitude as opposed to the professional, and an esprit de Corps as opposed to individual glory, Abrahams tells them off.

Scottish Eric Liddle, on the other hand, is a missionary born in China, who plans to return there to continue God’s work, but the “muscular Christian” runs like a wild animal. With religion as a metaphor, he compares faith to running a accelerate, describing the energy of the soul, the elation of breaking that tape, but he says that the power comes from within. “If you commit yourself to the savor of Jesus Christ-that is how you derive a straight speed.” To regain is to honour God, and the gift he was given. His faith is tested twice, between the missionary work and running, and his respect for God and running on the Sabbath. He’s clearly more Victorian, but also a Scot, choosing God over country instead of the more secular British. But will his faith abet him triumph over favoured Americans Jackson Scholz and Charles Paddock?

The slow-mo shots of the running athletes, the looks of elation, the disappointment of those who didn’t qualify shows the various reactions of the soul. And Novel Age composer Vangelis Pathaniossou made his price with his fetch, during the races and the scenes of Americans training, but especially the involving main theme that opens and closes the movie as the athletes are running along the ocean shore. This sequence itself is repeated twice, once where we know nothing about these athletes on who the cameras pan in on, but by the kill, when the camera does its work, we know these people better, and they have names, as the credits identify actor and role. This was an early role for Nicholas Farrell (Montague), who was Horatio in Branagh’s Hamlet. But Ben Rotten as the driven Abrahams, Ian Charleson as the debonair blond Christian Liddell, Nigel Havers as Lindsay, Ian Holm (Mussabini), and Alice Krige (Sybil) do well. And yes, the Head Porter at Caius College is Richard Griffiths, best known as Harry Potter’s Uncle Vernon, and quite thinner too.

For the better fraction of four years, I’ve complained about this improbable movie going in and out of print, but ALWAYS ONLY available in the lousy pan-and-scan (instead of widescreen) format.

This film, masterfully directed by the tall British musical/drama cinematic maestro, Alan Parker (e.g., Evita, Angela’s Ashes, Fame, etc.), deserved better treatment, and finally, let’s thank the superior executives at Fox Video for listening! A double-disk widescreen presentation with plenty of bonus features! Hooray!

Keep in mind that this is one of the greatest films ever made in the 1990s, so influential and new to the extent that it made the British Film Institute’s list of the best 100 films ever made in Ireland and the British Isles during the last century. Yet eerily, I can only count on two hands the number of people who’ve seen it! This has gotta change!

Now the film is issued on DVD as it was meant to be seen — in pudgy stereo and widescreen glory. I like the fact that Fox Video gave this “miniature” portray a chance, that it heard the complaints from rabid fans for years and finally did something about it!…

“The Commitments” is a raucous and delighted celebration of music. It’s a gloriously simple and lovable record, told with passion, profanity, and a deep conception of how music can infect even the most despairing life with joy. About time the movie got its trustworthy release on DVD.

If you’ve never seen “The Commitments” because you cringe at the view of white Dubliners singing American soul tunes, well, I hear ya. I fully expected watered-down music along the lines of Michael Bolton butchering Percy Sledge. However, I was foul - the music, in the context of the movie, is pure and pleasurable, and performed by young actors who understand that you don’t have to pretend to be anything you’re not to gain soul. Besides, Jimmy Rabbitte, the mastermind gradual the band, gives them all a thoroughly convincing speech that assures the lads and lasses from Dublin that they, too, are great to train soul.

The movie - well, it’s unbelievable. Hilarious, free, sometimes spirited, life-affirming. I almost wish the movie let the characters make a petite more before the inevitable and mythical ending, but then Joey the Lips gently reminds me (and Rabbitte), “this contrivance, it’s poetry.” He’s suitable - this is the pleasant ending for these guys, and the movie.

The DVD offers some substantial extras, including a revealing making-of doc, where we learn that director Parker combed the nightclubs of Dublin nightly, looking for current talent. I also worship the 10-years-later feature, where we derive to revisit our stale friends again. These are marvelous extras for a movie that fair wearisome makes you feel jubilant to be alive - how distinguished more can you ask of a movie than that?

When most people explore movies that have been made from books, they usually near away from the movie thinking, “The book is better.”

My maintain response to that comment might be, “They’re aesthetic equal in quality.” With the exception of a few name changes (”Twinkle Drive” in the book becomes “Arcomax” in the movie; from “Louise Fernandez” to “Katherine Alvarez”), the movie follows the set of the book stunning closely. It’s actually one of the first new movies I’ve seen that doesn’t stray that far from the book.

The premise of the movie is an curious one to me. High profile cases, such as the confirmation hearings of Justice Clarence Thomas and the testimony given by Anita Hill, have increased people’s awareness of sexual harassment exponentially. Based upon our personal perceptions and “expectations” of the people around us, we “demand” men to be more sexually aggressive than women and therefore more likely to take in sexual harassment or rape. But what can happen if a man is harassed by a woman? Gape “Disclosure” and get out.

For those of you who have not seen disclosure you are missing quite a bit. It is the narrative of a business man(Michael Douglas) who’s ex girlfriend(Demi Moore) comes to work at his office. In the extreme of events she become his boss and tries to further the relationship. One night in his office she tries to seduce him, even as far as having oral sex with him. After a dinky foreplay he turns her down and goes home to his wife. Well the next day he is charged with sexual harassment. Douglas proceeds to counter the suit. The movie shows the double standards between men and women concerning sexual assult. The audience watched as a once well understanding of man becomes a outcast and a devious woman gets placed on a pedistal. What really makes this keen worth watching is the knowledge that the higher the pedistal the longer the drop. When Demi Moore’s character falls, she falls hard. It’s an excellant movie with a lot of surprises and a sweet kind of justice.

I’ve read reviews whining because some people concept this movie was about Elvis. I guess I fair don’t survey criticizing a movie because of an fake assumption, when the movie is First-rate. I mean, damn grand. Kurt Russell, in not his first stint as Elvis (or in this case, an impersonator for the sake of a robbery) is wonderfully understated and kind of the serene during the storm in this movie. The storm? That would be Kevin Costner, who plays the baddest awful man of his career, I dare say. With all of the romantic hero roles he’s played, this role goes a long method in showing the many talents of this actor. How he could be so poor and yet, likeable, is unbelievable to me. Courtney Cox has the trashy-sex-kitten-with-a-good-heart thing going on, and her son is too wise for his years in a realistic, yet dusky, map. Yes, this movie has some violence. Is it more violent than other movies? Well, yeah, if you’re talking about Bounce, it does. The point is, this movie is immensely challenging, and never dumb. And that’s what movies are all about, yes?

I know that some people will say that this is a rip off of Ocean’s Eleven, or Reservoir Dogs, or whatever pseudoflick they’ve watched lately, and there are some things alike, but this movie IS certainly icy entertainment at its best. Costner plays a psycho (who says he is Elvis’s like son), and Russell a misfit, in the unfriendly spot at the foul time, who try to pull a heist, but it goes awry. People have said that it is too violent, that the shootings observe made up, but, hey, that’s the point: it looks crazy because it is supposed to be crazy; Courtney Cox leaves her child with Kurt because she was nuts, they drop in savor because this IS a movie, it isn’t supposed to be a staunch life fable. Of course, everybody is entitled to have an concept, but before you instruct yours: Notice this film. Even if I’m not the biggest Kevin Costner fan, I mus admit that he is the best piece and the best actor here. This movie IS the coolest modern release

Ah, MST3K Season One. I can gape how some people, even MST3K fans, might be disappointed by this video. Instead of TV’s Frank, Dr. Forrester has Dr. Larry Erhardt (John Weinstein) for a sidekick, and it is Weinstein rather than Kevin Murphy supplying the relate of Tom Servo. The situation looks as cheap as it really was, the silhouettes in the theater are sort of green-looking, Joel sometimes seems to forget which bot is which, and the jokes are sometimes rather lame. However, the indicate is quiet hilarious. If you’ve never seen a Season One episode before, prick Weinstein’s Servo inform some behind. Initially, I hated it, but being fortunate enough to have the whole first season on tape, I found that this initial Servo incarnation was actually elegant laughable in his absorb correct after I got faded to him. This one video probably won’t produce you a Weinstein fan, but give him a chance.

As for the movie itself, The Crawling Hand was perfect MST3K material–there’s a comic site, an annoying teenager, and some incredibly awful acting. America’s spot program is apparently hurry in a cramped warehouse somewhere in the middle of nowhere, and the scientists there are in a tizzy. On two occasions, a guy has been sent to the moon, landing successfully, then being lost on his plan wait on to earth. This second time, communication is reestablished with the astronaut 20 minutes after he has hasten out of oxygen. He begs the men in the control room (actually, it’s really unprejudiced a desk) to blow him up before he reenters the atmosphere. The doctor-type guy finally hits the red button. Meanwhile, a supposedly gleaming slacker goes swimming in the ocean with his Swedish girlfriend, and while they are frolicking around they hasten across a human hand lying on the beach. Naturally, our hero decides he must have that hand; he sneaks encourage that night (apparently this is the one beach in California that no one whatsoever goes to) and makes the fantastic hand his possess, lovingly placing it in his landlady’s storage room late some like. Soon, the hand (which does stir, unbiased like the title says) begins strangling people (that’s gonna happen, you know) . At this point, the sheriff, AKA Alan Hale (Skipper!), commences an investigation. One print found on the body of the first victim is matched to the fingerprint of the blown-up astronaut, and that’s when the State Boys approach out to try and super up a exiguous of their mess. To complicate matters, our boy who found the hand begins having episodes wherein he turns into an “Elvis zombie” with heavy mascara under his eyes and feels compelled to strangle people himself. As you may have guessed, it all comes down to some hand to hand combat in the slay.

I assume this is one of the best Season One episodes. I particularly enjoyed one skit in which the guys all pretend to be William Shatner being choked by a disembodied hand. Joel and the bots are detached developing the dependable spirit and style of the reveal, but the genius is already unmistakably there. Most importantly, I can screech you that this indicate is very comic.

I’ve been a rabid MSTie ever since I accidentally caught an airing of “Cave Dwellers” on the Comedy Channel many many moons ago (and for those of you who remember the pre Comedy Central era, that should recount you objective how many moons that is.) While I can indulge in the fact that these guys were calm in their experimental/formative stages at the time of this episode — let’s face it, they had objective graduated from local access — I detached can’t encourage but price this one as a dud. MST3K was (is) a expose with riffs and snags at the core, and when the rimshots are as slow-coming and uninspired as the ones featured in “The Crawling Hand,” the focus of the demonstrate shifts rather unhealthily to the real film itself. I barely managed a chuckle for the majority of the episode — the fact that Servo (brought to “life” by Weinstein) sounds narcoleptic didn’t back noteworthy either. If it weren’t for the Shatner-ripping in the bumpers and a few moments of life toward the kill, I’d have laid a one-star review on this one. Composed, it is useful to have in a collection to prove how far the cast had approach by the time of such third season opuses as “Cave Dwellers” and “Pod People.” Also, it will get you delight in Kevin Murphy, who took over Servo after Weinstein departed, fine worthy on the same level as oxygen.

Okay, okay, before I open getting e-mails up the waz detailing the differences between monkeys and apes, I know Clyde (the main character in the film owns an orange, male ape) wasn’t a monkey, but `Clint and his orangutan’ unbiased didn’t have the same zing…Every Which Map But Loose (1978), directed by James Fargo, who, befriend in the mid to leisurely 70’s seemed to have a promising career, working with Eastwood earlier in 1976’s The Enforcer, but after the predictable and hokey 1982 Chuck Norris martial arts actioneer Forced Vengeance, he soon found himself relegated to the domain of the little veil, directing episodes of such 80’s television shows as The A-Team, Scarecrow and Mrs. King, and Hunter. Starring in the film is Clint Eastwood (Unforgiven), one time Eastwood co-habitator (that means they shacked up together, but never got hitched) Sondra Locke (The Outlaw Josey Wales, The Gauntlet), Geoffrey Lewis (Salem’s Lot, Bronco Billy), and one of the more curmudgeonly actresses I’ve ever seen in Ruth Gordon (Rosemary’s Baby, Harold and Maude) . Also appearing is Beverly D’Angelo (National Lampoon’s Vacation), Bill McKinney (The Outlaw Josey Wales, The Gauntlet), and John Quade (Dreadful Company, High Plains Drifter) as Cholla, leader of the Dim Widows, what has to be the most inept biker gang ever committed to celluloid…

Eastwood is Philo Beddoe, a truck driver who earns a miniature extra income as a bare-knuckled fighter in what appear to be unsanctioned street fights, with his friend Orville Boggs (Lewis), a tow truck driver as his sort of manager (well, not really manager, but Orville researches the opponents and makes the bets) . Philo, along with his pet orangutan Clyde, and Orville live with Ma Boggs, a cantankerous former biddy who’s constantly complaining about how Clyde defecates all over the status, and constantly steals her Oreos. Anyway, life seems to be going alright, that is until Philo falls for a country singer named Lynn Halsey-Taylor (Locke) . After making the bumpity bump between the sheets and accepting a profitable deal of money from Philo (there is a name for women like that, but she did give Philo a rather convincing bawl yarn), Lynn mysteriously up and leaves without so considerable as a how do you do, headed encourage to Denver…which prompts Philo to bewitch up and pick after her, with Orville and Clyde in tow. Along the map they execute a few enemies in a couple of cops who carry a grudge map to far (impartial let it go boys, you’ll live longer) and also in a particularly lame biker group calling themselves the Dismal Widows, led by their portly leader Cholla (John Quade), both groups in pursuit of Philo for what we in the business like to call payback (which also happens to be the name of a really pleasurable Mel Gibson film based on a Donald Westlake book) . Philo does finally obtain Lynn, the cops and the bikers gather Philo, and Philo finds himself with the opportunity to face off against the legendary street fighter Tank Murdock, supposedly the best there is…

The production notes space that when this script was originally presented to Eastwood, it was done so in the hopes that he would pass it along to Burt Reynolds…but Eastwood, who was looking for procedure to crash from the western genre that launched him into stardom, liked it so grand he decided he wanted the role himself. Also, many around him at the time, especially the studio executives at Warner Brothers, tried to dissuade him from making the film as they didn’t reflect it would cruise, but, after the film’s release it ended up being the top grossing film of Eastwood’s career, so successful it spawned a accepted sequel…I often wonder how many astounding films got quashed by know nothing studio execs because the script didn’t have the juice of someone like Eastwood leisurely them…anyway, this film is unbiased a pleasant time, and doesn’t tend to lift itself too seriously. Eastwood carries the movie, with his laid aid machismo, but he did have a bit of competition in the ape and Ruth Gordon who tend to take most of the scenes they’re in (probably my accepted scene is when Ma’s home alone, confronted by the biker gang searching for Philo, and is forced to exercise her shotgun which I deem is similar to what someone might consume to hunt elephants) . Also, I know many people would probably like to credit individuals from `da hood’ with starting the whole wearing your baseball cap curved fad, but I contend it was actually Geoffrey Lewis’ character Orville that made it approved. Locke did well, but I always felt she exuded an inherently creepy quality (check out the confrontation scene between her character and Philo advance the destroy), no matter what film I saw her in (she appeared in like seven of Eastwood’s films, that is until the relationship took the last sigh to splitsville), and here is no different. Maybe it’s her excessively huge eyeballs, or her borderline albino condition…and I really can’t review this film without mentioning the soundtrack. Normally, I don’t listen to country and western music, but I really did luxuriate in its’ usage in here, featuring performers like Eddie Rabbitt, Mel Tillis, and Charlie Rich…also Locke performs one or two number surprisingly well…and the memorable theme passe for the Dusky Widow gang…I found myself humming along every time they made their appearance in the film.

The wide shroud (1.85:1) record looks very top-notch on this DVD, and the Dolby Digital 5.1 sound comes through reasonably determined. Special features include a theatrical trailer for the film, production notes, and a filmography for Eastwood. I would’ve liked to seen a cast commentary included, as I deem everyone had a vast time making the film, and probably could have shared some extraordinary anecdotes, but whatever…this film was followed by the equally favorite sequel Any Which Scheme You Can (1980) .

Cookieman108

Wow, do you mean to say that Hollywood actually made a movie that was not condescending towards working class America? Oh, that’s fair, this one came out 27 years ago. Watching it for the first time since boyhood made me painfully aware of objective how noteworthy our culture has changed for the worse. Nowadays, presenting a character like Philo Beddoe would necessitate the inclusion of some sort of Jerry Springer incest set unbiased to invent it believable. Yet Eastwood’s Philo is anything but the kind of bad dullard we are so conventional to seeing scream onstage at his half-sister paramour; in fact, his morality is exceptional given the circumstances. His honor is can be easily juxtaposed with Sandra Locke’s “hustler” mentality. Their romance is an fabulous beating, but Philo takes the damage with the same grace that he does in the unofficial underground ring. My well-liked portion of the film is when Eastwood approaches a college girl in a country bar to say hello. She is foul in return and looks down her mopish nose at him. The only reason she’s even at the tavern is to gawk primitives like Philo, and then represent her findings relieve to the civilized world. His response is in keeping with what all of us would like to say after being top-notch to someone who’s above that sort of thing, “What are you exasperated about? ” I’m definite she could not even say him even if she wanted to.

On the whole, Every Which Arrangement But Loose, is a campy timecapsule harkening benefit to days when we could quiet laugh at what was comic, and esteem for reasons that aren’t reasons at all. If you ask me, this one has all the intangibles of a successful movie: strong men, feminine women, motorcycle gangs, conventional ladies packing curses and shotguns along with an amorous orangutan who is a better mate than Sandra Locke. Yes, this one is worth every Olympia beer and pick-up truck you peek onscreen.

I would give the movie itself five stars, but the DVD presentation is not as strong. The 1980 Flash Gordon movie is one of the funnest romps in the station opera I have ever experienced. Grand more legal to the Saturday morning serial kind of sci-fi that Star Wars was paying homage to. Plus the soundtrack from Queen impartial ups the fun factor even more. You would contemplate this combination of music and boom would fabricate for a very campy film, but not necessarily. While the movie definitely knows it’s roots and is having fun with that you really can’t call Flash Gordon a cheesy B-movie.

What I am finding out about the Savior of the Universe (SotU) edition DVD is that it is lacking a lot of the frosty stuff from the European Silver Anniversary Edition DVD. While you do catch a remastered film with 2.35:1 anomorphic widescreen, 5.1 Dolby Surround and the movie trailer it lacks in the really fine special features from the European DVD. That one has commentaries by director Mike Hodges and actor Brian Blessed (the very charismatic hawkman ruler Vultan), production stills, interviews and view art. The SotU DVD has none of this.

What you do net is two featurettes. One is from Alex Ross (the guy who painted the DVD mask) on how grand he loves the movie. He actually does a really estimable job of making his featurette mighty like an analysis of the movie and would have worked large as narration for a documentary. Instead you honest accept Alex in a chair with a few movie clips thrown in here and there. The other featurette is called Writing a Classic by screenwriter Lorenzo Semple Jr. Definite the Silver Special Edition doesn’t have these featurettes, but I assume you’re really missing out without those commentaries and interviews.

Another thing that bugs me is this DVD is region in an impressive and slightly oversized case, but when you initiate it up all you earn is the DVD and the pencil art insert from Alex Ross. No booklet detailing any info on the movie… not even a single page chapter list. Yeah, Yeah… most of you would say “but the remastered movie is what’s vital” but considering the sendup (and packaging) I would inquire at least something more than honest a disk and a sketch. I have seen movies with far less noteriety obtain more in their packaging than this.

The remastering itself is definitely a sizable step up from the unusual DVD release, but calm not perfect. The matte blocks are painfully noticeable on the spaceships early in the movie. There is however a whole lot less dirt and distortion (almost unnoticeable) compared to the first DVD release. Also don’t seek information from an fabulous audio experience even if they remastered in 5.1 Dolby Surround. Again, it’s a qualified deal better than the other DVD, but my guess is the source material wasn’t mountainous so the remaster unexcited sounds a bit on the thin and tinny side. Unexcited I won’t argue that this is the best transfer of the movie to date.

I can’t for the life of me figure out why they didn’t fair add the European edition features to this one and maybe add the recent things to sweeten the pot. But acquire a different edition alltogether that is missing some frosty bonus material? Not the smartest travel in my book.

So should you gather the SotU Edition of Flash Gordon? Well it IS remastered (and I hear some say it’s better looking than the UK edition, although this is not confirmed) and available in the US, but a trusty fan might only go for it if you can’t play set 2 DVDs or if you really, REALLY want that Alex Ross featurette (and pencil insert) . It’s a tough call. I mediate the Silver Anniversary Edition is probably the better of the two, but this will do in a pinch.

Don’t lift from online scammers. This DVD will be re-released in the descend of 2005!!!! Cheaper that these clowns sell them for!

After the disappearance of the ” Duke” and the substantial Giant directors Howard Hawks, John Ford, the Western stood collected from the spacious conceal. The Vietnam and Watergate affairs literally redefined the development of other genres. While Bronson (Death wish) and Eatswood (Magnum Force) cleaned up the streets, the American Cinema experienced an inward eye. Films like Deer Hunter, Kramer vs Kramer, Julia or People captured the principal attention of critics and audience, a unique generation of directors assumed the role of bringing encourage the Cinema of its lost brightness Spielberg and Lucas were the unusual kids in the town and the entertainment industry shone again (Jaws and Stars wars), Ridley Scott (Alien), Coppola (Godfather) and Scorsesse began the nostalgic dawdle to the far twenty and thirties, the Western was literally struggled by commercial reasons.

Since the times of “The Wild bunch” (1969) and “Bite the bullet” (1972) we had not seen a memorable and fantastic Western like this one. The Western as well as the thriller experienced a gleaming transformation, which was the inclusion of diminutive vignettes plenty of humor in order to sustain the account interest for these unique generations.

The quartet formed by Kevin Kline, Scott Glenn, Danny Glover and Kevin Costner will have to natty up Silverado. An comical film that despite the lack of memoir visions a la Sam Peckinpah, John Ford or Howard Hawks, got the miracle that eventually paved the plan for major films like “The unforgiven”, ” Dance with wolves” and “Tombstone” during the Nineties decade.

A laughable and excitement movie, plenty of action all the scheme through.

Silverado came out attend in the 1980s when I was in high school. I saw it then, and enjoyed it. I recently purchased the DVD, watched it again, and smooth luxuriate in it. Silverado contains a lot of classic Western elements - cowboys, gunfights, poor guys, saloon scenes, etc. But, it is a petite different than many of the classic John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart, and Clint Eastwood Westerns. The characters are diverse and quirky, and the dialogue is rather clever.

The cast is well chosen, and the status is easy to follow, which leads to plenty of action scenes. My kids especially liked the character Jake (Kevin Costner) who acts kind of like a grown up kid. Kevin Kline’s character is a somewhat off-key hero, but does the factual thing in the waste.

If you appreciate classic Westerns, you will most likely bask in Silverado as well. It may not be as intense as others, but it will retain you entertained. In fact, it is one of the more underated unique Westerns, and worth watching.

This 2008 repackaging of 2001’s “A History of Britain”, featuring Simon Schama as author and presenter, is not the standard history of Mountainous Britain. Schama is no slave to historical convention and his 15-episode retelling explores British history from a slightly different point of plan.

Schama’s famed BBC series traces British history from Roman Britain through the death of Winston Churchill in 1965. His focus is not timeline oriented; many prominent players in British history rate no more than passing mention. Even the iconic Churchill has to piece the last episode with Eric Blair, better known by his literary name of George Orwell. Instead, Schama seeks to identify the listless, difficult steps by which Britain became a constitutional monarchy with individual freedoms and the rule of law. Those steps are found in Roman Britain, in the endless dynastic and religious wars that defined the powers of the monarchy and parliament, in the pains of the Dim Death, and in the long political and military struggles to construct a united British nation and then a British empire.

The episodes feature essential archeological sites, castles, ruined abbeys, and other locations where significant events took position. We meet the prominent personalities of the epic through pictures, paintings, sculptures, tomb representations, and, rarely, reenactment. Schama narrates in person, stalking through ruins, landscapes and museums while delivering his rather blunt colloquial commentary.

“A History of Britain” is not for everyone. The thematic presentation may be hard to follow for those not already familiar with British history. Those wedded to a romantic vision of a storied past may net Schama’s blunt disection of power politics to be off-setting. Schama’s twitchy physical presence may be distracting for some viewers.

On the other hand, this telling of British history is inspiring, realistic, and thought-provoking in getting at the heart of what it means to be British. The record is as powerful Scottish, Irish, and Welsh as English in coverage. Prominent personalities are shown in their bulky rounded humanity. The presention itself is polished work. “A History of Britain” is therefore highly recommended to fans of British history looking for a new angle.

Schama is one of the polarized things: you either like him or can’t stand him. This situation presents the history of the Britain by NOT trudging through endless timelines. Instead, the near is taken wherein specific people or events are examined that describe a particular episode in British history. From each fraction of the DVD you raze up with an impression, or at least a feeling of what they time period is concept to be like, even if you can’t remember the specifics. It covers all two millenia of history of this island. The final few minutes are memorable.
