A friend of mine sent me this video because she knew my 18 month feeble is on the brink of talking, but gets a shrimp frustrated when he can’t find me to understand what he wants! I popped the Cheerful Signs DVD in one morning for him while I made his breakfast, barely watching it myself. That evening, I was giving him dinner and picked up his bib to effect it on, and he made the mark for “bib”! I was shy! I build in the DVD again, and distinct enough — the minute characters on the video were making the same label! So we watched it together so I could learn the signs too. The next morning, he pulled me into the kitchen and I asked him what he wanted and he made the mark for drink… again, I was totally amazed! I would esteem to say it’s objective that my son is a genius… but I really assume it is the video. We leer it about every other day now, and even though he already learned the signs, he really likes the characters and watching the other kids/babies. I wish I would have started this sooner — maybe he wouldn’t have gone through his squealing phase when he was trying to communicate! Oh, and I promise you will gain the cute theme song stuck in your head for days.
This video was simple but effective. It emphasizes USEFUL signs that are easy to learn and incorporate into everyday routines. My toddler picked up the signs surprisingly speedy. Though not done perfectly, it did assist me understand what he wanted to say. First-rate stuff!

The most disappointing thing (possible the only disappointing thing) about this DVD is the last of the series. I was desperately hoping there would be impartial a dinky bit more. Well, we knew from the beginning that things would work out, but creator Ryo Mizuno has found a unusual plan to underscore several customary messages in the process. Without being the least bit overbearing. The viewer is left no alternative but to smile warmly and hope that somehow there will be a second season some day.
This is the most silly anime I’ve ever seen. It silly and has a dauntless quality. The character development is wonderful. I’ve never seen a series where the characters seem to grow and have such wonderful interaction. The downside is the 6th volune leave you hanging. As a previous reviewer said it appeared to be canceled after one season. I would seize a second season of Louie and friends. I’d recommend this series as a take!

What I can say, though, is that this is one extraordinary show; as an overview for those who have no thought what the storyline is, unbiased narrate a messiah-type that has to rescue the world from being enslaved by an corrupt empire. One of my celebrated parts of every episode is the funny relief: Sokka. Obvious, all of the characters have humorous incidents, but Sokka is without a doubt the character intended to possess the burden of comical relief, and he carries it off well. Yet, he is also the main one with the ideas.

With Book 3 and the entire series complete this year, I can say it progressively got better and more intense with each season. The character development is detailed and satisfying. This is one spot to consume (after the other two sets, that is) . It is sunless that this is the last season, but there are intentions for a recent Avatar series in the future, possibly with a different incarnation of the Avatar. The creators are said to have intended The Last Airbender as a three season arc, a sort of trilogy.
You may contemplate it is really for kids, being inspiring and on Nickelodeon, but my wife and I, with two cramped children, are into it fair as mighty as the kids are. If you have never tried watching it, I suggest you rent it from Netflix or Blockbuster to earn a sampling of the quality of the reveal. It is best to open at the beginning, though, because it is a tale extended over three seasons, and makes more sense if you observe in order. The only reveal on television that gets my attention more than this is Battlestar Galactica, which is also ending soon.
I was most blissful when I found out there will be a live action movie directed by M. Night Shyamalan based on Book 1, simply called The Last Airbender (to avoid confusion with a movie called Avatar by James Cameron coming out in 2009 - not related to the series), which should be out in July 2010. He intends to divulge a trilogy based on the three seasons, separated by two years each, spending six years of his life on this storyline. That should say something about the series, as it is the first thing he has worked on that was not something he came up with himself.
As a mom of two who is nearing 40, I was begrudgingly introduced to the Avatar series when my son talked me into getting the first disk of Book 1: Earth through Blockbuster. I sat down with the kids when they place the disk. I had NO procedure of paying attention to the demonstrate. I am VERY cheerful to say that by the kill of that first disk I couldn’t wait to score the next. This explain is truly stout. The legend lines are amazing, the music is distinguished and you truly grow to care about these kids who are working to do the world. We fair finished the final disk of the final book tonight and it was Extraordinary. We are looking forward to getting the fleshy state in September to complete our location collection. I can’t recommend this series enough.

A cinematic version of Tolkien’s THE LORD OF THE RINGS ranks up with the hope that Lucas will indeed accomplish another Star Wars Trilogy, and, I judge I can safely say, this is one of the most anticipated films in the movie industry’s long and checkered history. You would mediate it’s movie paradise, considering Lucas has been in the midst of another Star Wars trilogy and LORD OF THE RINGS has finally got a cinema deal (live action!), but PHANTOM MENACE proved something of a disappointment (Mesa Jar Jar Binks!), and I mediate quite a few people will enter into the theatre with a positive amount of trepidation.
There’s a reason for that. Three tantalizing Tolkien films have been released with very problematic results. The 1978 Bakshi release is impartial embarrassing; the film is both incoherent and confusing.

Not only does Peter Jackson’s film work, it’s graceful, shapely, has all the chronicle and grandeur of the book. Jackson, a Tolkien fanatic, could have gotten so interested with bringing out the extremely detailed world Tolkien gave us that the pacing would suffer or we’d lose patience with all these obscure details which would alienate the regular movie goer. Not only does he not alienate the general movie goer, but he entices the fan gross so great they can’t aid but plunge in adore with his vision of Tolkien’s world.
The only actual flaw is how rushed first part of the movie is. Although I can understand cutting the Frail Forest and Tom Bombadil, the plan they handled getting the hobbits out of the Shire was unacceptable. There is not that sense of camaraderie between the Hobbits that there is in the book, there is no “conspiracy,” and Merry and Pippin unbiased join without any questioning from Sam and Frodo. While Jackson does a obliging job at building the Hobbits’ characters and establishing their personalities, I couldn’t reach up with a pleasant reason why Frodo and Sam would impartial let Merry and Pippin join them.
The Prancing Pony is worst. There is no questioning from the Hobbits about Aragorn proving himself, there is no scene about him asking them to trust him, and the whole sequence feels mighty too rushed. Sam only questions Aragorn while they’re actually out of the inn and traveling.
Thankfully, however, that is the only accurate flaw. The rest of the things the script changed (tightening Elrond’s council, the expansion of Arwen, cutting Sam from the Galadriel mirror sequence, tempting Aragorn with the ring, etc) I can spy why they did it for dramatic tension. I also liked the plan they handled Elrond’s council, because that could have ruined the movie like it did with Bakshi’s. They had established and covered powerful of the material in that chapter elsewhere by means of voice-over prologue and actually showing the viewer what is happening (especially with the Isengard sequences), and as a result lessened the screentime of that scene and helping with the dramatics of it.
As for the controversial expansion of Arwen, I tend to agree with the film makers in their decision to enlarge her role. By making her fraction of the Ford sequence it introduces the character and establishes her in the viewer’s mind, and the relationship between Arwen and Aragorn is more fully explored. As for their romantic interlude in Rivendell, not only do I agree with that but assume it should have been done in the book. Tolkien did not know who Strider was when he was first writing FELLOWSHIP, and did not go abet and change the scenes to further elaborate the romance between Arwen and Aragorn, and by not including a scene in Rivendell to set aside their savor for one another lessens by far the impact of their union in Fraction III, and (for once) this romantic scene is actually an improvement on the book. As for her role in the Flight at the Ford, for the movie they made the upright choice though the book is level-headed preferable.
In achieving the balance between fan faulty and the more causal fan, this film is a spectacular success. Making a movie out of a book the size of Fellowship, the fact is you will have to condense, tighten, rearrange, and get changes for dramatic tensions. The mediums are different, and you cannot have a state translation from a book to a film. Despite of what they reduce, the movie level-headed clocks in at three hours, which is very righteous. The loyal scrape with this film, as others famed, is it’s going to be a plump two years before we finally glean to glance THE RETURN OF THE KING.
In the demolish, we salvage a movie that stays lawful to the SPIRIT of the book. This is what we Tolkien fans have long been waiting for. Thank you so remarkable Peter Jackson and your cast and crew.

A lot “Director’s Carve” scenes are usually objective added footage that doesn’t do a whole lot to add onto the theatrical edition of movies with examples like Star Wars, Manhunter, or even most of the “Aliens” movies as well. The extra material is objective that, extras, that wouldn’t raze me to never scrutinize again.
It’s a totally different fable altogether with the “Lord Of The Rings” movies altogether. While the regular theatrical editions were mind-blowing, the extended cuts of the same films do wonders in fleshing out the sage and expanding the characters a lot more. Several characters that were not distinguished more than background people are shown noteworthy more hide time, stories are greatly expanded, other scenes are mighty more meaningful, and the movies overall have a totally different feel altogether thanks to all of the extra footage that was not included on the theatrical editions. Now as I peep them, the former editions of them are rendered almost completely former due to the chopped up nature of them. I sometimes wonder if Peter Jackson grimaced when he had to leave a lot of extra shots out of the movies to fit them onto the theatres when they were released.

“Fellowship” has 30 minutes of extra footage included to a length of 3 and a half hours. “The Two Towers” was extended 43 minutes to a total of 3 hours and 42 minutes and finally “The Return of The King” is extended by a large 50 minutes and the ultimate result is a whopping 4 hours and 11 minutes long! I don’t know about you but I don’t know how one can form a longer movie like this but Jackson did it! The gigantic total of all three extended editions is at least an vast 11 hours long! This is objective the movies themselves.
As for all of the extras on the “Extended Editions”, there are over a days worth of extras for surf through on the latter two discs of each film situation. The things on them are too mammoth to justify in detail with this review.
Whether you assume them individually or all at once on this massive gift dwelling, “The Lord of The Rings” trilogy goes down as the greatest trilogy of all time. You could not form a better hold. I notify it!

Written by David E. Kelley, the mastermind slack television’s Ally McBeal and The Practice (both of which won Emmys in the “best of” categories last year), _Lake Placid_ is a silly scare film about the search for a giant crocodile, inexplicably living in a landlocked lake in upstate Fresh York.
When a diver is eaten alive in the opening moments, by some unknown creature, the local game warden (Pullman) teams up with a paleontologist (Fonda) from Fresh York to acquire the beast. Add to this mix an eccentric millionaire philanthropist with a penchant for swimming with “crocs” (Platt), and the local sheriff (Brendan Gleeson), who thinks the man is nuts, and you’ve got the recipe for one of the more underrated of last summer’s films.
This is a fear film and it can, at times, accept quite messy (glimpse the opening attack sequence, for example) . The special effects work is about what you’d query in such a film, although with the advent of computer graphics, it’s a lot easier to bring a realistic giant crocodile to life. Surprisingly, though, there are few deaths in the film.

The emphasis is more on suspenseful moments of the Jaws variety, in which we wonder whether unlucky swimmers are about to become lunch. And, there are even a couple of harmful, but amusing moments in the film, as when an eccentric veteran lady (played by Betty White) offers random farm animals as sacrifices to the croc.
But the right emphasis in the film is on the humor and there are some tall conversations and arguments among the film’s characters, particularly Platt’s whacko croc-swimmer and Brendan Gleeson’s sheriff (in one of the more recent bits of casting, as the Irish Gleeson is forced to adopt an American accent, which tends to hasten in some of the more heated moments) . And White’s character is also played for laughs (you’ll be surprised at some of the inventive curses she comes up with) .
The film wasn’t particularly well-received when first released last summer, but luckily, with its release on video, this can be remedied. This is not a film for everyone’s tastes, but if, like me, you occasionally hunger for a “giant-animal-runs-amuck” film, _Lake Placid_ more than fills the bill.
I hated this movie when I first saw it. I always felt that it tried too hard to be humorous. However, it’s been a few years since I’ve seen it, and I was bored one night so I gave it another chance. I’m jubilant I did. While it isn’t as worthy as “Anaconda,” it does have some worthy qualities about it. The cast does very well with the campy dialogue they are given. The interactions between Oliver Platt and Brendan Gleeson are downright silly, and their relationship really steals the prove. Everyone talks about Betty White’s character in this flick, and it is delicate silly to ogle her spew out curse word after curse word, but my approved line of hers is how she delivers the word “Sherlock!” to Gleeson’s character.

The crocodile looks splendid worthy. In a couple of scenes it is sure that he’s an animatronic croc, but thank heavens that the entire thing isn’t CG-created. It’s nice to witness that puppeteers can peaceful derive work in Hollywood. Though the puppets are huge, the CGI isn’t too shabby either. The croc really is impressive to spy on the cover. He’s definitely done on a higher level than the aforementioned “Anaconda.”
I recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys giant creature features with a hefty dose of macabre humor. Though it may be subpar when compared to other films of the genre, it is definitely better than the SciFi channel offerings such as “Dinocroc” and “Frankenfish.” SciFi channel seems to be the last domain for larger-than-life creature flicks. Though I commend them for attempting to withhold the genre above water, I wish that more camp-fests like “Lake Placid” could score their device to the big-screen.

This group is phenomenal. Their voices and harmonies are respectable and they sound and examine substantial. This cd is really trustworthy and it’s been a long wait to actually ’see’ them originate. I’m not usually a fan of opera, but these guys bring about something special to this genre and some of it might be to do with their search for and their youth, but I don’t contemplate anyone could really assert the talent these guys have. Glance, Simon is usually legal. This is a large dvd.
Great DVD. I loved the fact that we heard the chronicle slow the creation of Il Divo. To hear about their backgrounds and how they began to blend their voices and manufacture a sound that is truly appreciated by all is astounding to me. They continue to salvage better as they branch out into a slightly different sound as each CD/DVD comes out. I can’t compare their voices to any I’ve heard before. Simon Cowell is a genious when it comes to finding unique talent and he was lawful on the trace when he had this vision for Il Divo. I recommend this DVD to all who wish to look and luxuriate in objective what it takes to bag unknown talent, realize their potential and have a vision as to how that talent will lift the world by surprise. Il Divo did and will continue to for years to arrive.

The film tells the myth of these two individuals, who are as different from each other as different can be, and explores their personal drive and reasons for running. Eric Liddell is a proper Scot and a fervid Presbyterian (He would save John Knox to shame!) . The son of a missionary and himself a missionary by avocation, he runs because “God made him speedily for a reason”. His running is a reconciliation of his faith and his passion, which is running. He runs for the glory of God. His faith always remains constant and pre-eminent in his life. His devotion to it causes some controversy during the Olympics, as a consequence of the stance he takes when he discovers that the preliminary mete for the 200 metre rush would be held on a Sunday. Liddell simply refuses to bustle on the Sabbath! Luckily for Ample Britain, Lord Andrew Lindsay (Nigel Havers), a gentleman and fellow competitor, graciously steps in and, as he had already won a gold medal in the hurdles, gives him his situation in the 400 metre high-tail, which would purchase site on a Thursday. This would never happen today in the dog eat dog world of competitive sports, powerful less in the Olympics of today!
Harold Abrahams is completely different. A secular Jew and Cambridge scholar, he studies in the bastion of upper crust British society, struggling to fit in but always remaining the proverbial outsider. He has a passion for running that is motivated by his passion for winning. In his world, God has nothing to do with it. Winning is merely an affirmation of himself in a world that he believes thinks less of him because he is a Jew. Consequently, his desire to regain is superceded only by his awe of losing. When two Cambridge dons, the Master of Trinity, played by the slow John Gielgud, along with the Master of Caius, meet with Abrahams, they are concerned that his hiring of a personal professional trainer, Sam Mussabini (Ian Holm), to assist him with his running is not quite in keeping with the amateur tradition of the Cambridge gentleman. Implicit in their criticism is an undercurrent of anti-Semitism, one to which Abrahams does not purchase marvelous. It is that moment that defines what makes Abrahams accelerate.

This is ultimately a chronicle about faith. With Liddell, it is about his faith in God. With Abrahams, it is about his faith in himself. Both were propelled to Olympic glory by it. It is a memoir sublimely told, though a minute uninteresting at times. It is not an action type of sports movie. It speaks gently of a time long passed, when the Olympics was truly the bastion of amateurs. It is astonishing to peer track events of the Olympics of 1924 depicted in all their simplicity…no flash, no glitz, no gimmicks. The runners ran on dirt tracks. They all carried spades in which to dig their footholds for their starting “blocks”, something that surprised me. This attention to detail permeates the entire film, and its evocation of a bygone era makes the film linger in one’s memory long after it has ended.
Ian Charleson gives a valuable performances as Eric Liddell, infusing him with a gentleness and purity of spirit that is compelling, while Ben Heinous plays Harold Abrahams with an intensity and singularity of purpose that is riveting. Their stellar performances, as well as those given by the satisfactory supporting cast, coupled with glorious cinematography and the well-behaved direction of Hugh Hudson, compose this film generous of its 1981 Academy Award for Best Describe. The sparkling and soaring, synthesized music of Vangelis also won an Academy Award and went on to become a number one hit in the pop charts in 1982.

Hence his enrolling in all these clubs and fraternities in Caius College, from track, tennis, and even the Gilbert and Sullivan glee club-he wants to enter the Christian, Anglo-Saxon corridors of power, i.e. the feeble school tie. He succeeds in getting to an English girl in the gain of Sybil Gordon, who doesn’t mind he’s Jewish. He can race like the wind, and nothing would fulfill his dream of being English more than winning so he’ll be celebrated, but he’s so driven, hinging so remarkable of his success on his winning, that he acts like its his fill funeral when he loses in a bustle. He engages Sam Mussabini, a private and professional coach, which is contrary to the implied rules of Cambridge. When the heads of Trinity House and Caius House, (Sir John Gielgud and Lindsay Anderson) utilize their prep-school mentality to chastise him, saying Cambridge prided itself on the amateur attitude as opposed to the professional, and an esprit de Corps as opposed to individual glory, Abrahams tells them off.
Scottish Eric Liddle, on the other hand, is a missionary born in China, who plans to return there to continue God’s work, but the “muscular Christian” runs like a wild animal. With religion as a metaphor, he compares faith to running a accelerate, describing the energy of the soul, the elation of breaking that tape, but he says that the power comes from within. “If you commit yourself to the savor of Jesus Christ-that is how you derive a straight speed.” To regain is to honour God, and the gift he was given. His faith is tested twice, between the missionary work and running, and his respect for God and running on the Sabbath. He’s clearly more Victorian, but also a Scot, choosing God over country instead of the more secular British. But will his faith abet him triumph over favoured Americans Jackson Scholz and Charles Paddock?
The slow-mo shots of the running athletes, the looks of elation, the disappointment of those who didn’t qualify shows the various reactions of the soul. And Novel Age composer Vangelis Pathaniossou made his price with his fetch, during the races and the scenes of Americans training, but especially the involving main theme that opens and closes the movie as the athletes are running along the ocean shore. This sequence itself is repeated twice, once where we know nothing about these athletes on who the cameras pan in on, but by the kill, when the camera does its work, we know these people better, and they have names, as the credits identify actor and role. This was an early role for Nicholas Farrell (Montague), who was Horatio in Branagh’s Hamlet. But Ben Rotten as the driven Abrahams, Ian Charleson as the debonair blond Christian Liddell, Nigel Havers as Lindsay, Ian Holm (Mussabini), and Alice Krige (Sybil) do well. And yes, the Head Porter at Caius College is Richard Griffiths, best known as Harry Potter’s Uncle Vernon, and quite thinner too.

As the winner of four Oscars including Best Narrate, Chariots Of Fire remains an unpretentious film where the carry out line is a true, spiritual, and of course a physical goal, and how one must be right to oneself to advance that goal.

For the better fraction of four years, I’ve complained about this improbable movie going in and out of print, but ALWAYS ONLY available in the lousy pan-and-scan (instead of widescreen) format.
This film, masterfully directed by the tall British musical/drama cinematic maestro, Alan Parker (e.g., Evita, Angela’s Ashes, Fame, etc.), deserved better treatment, and finally, let’s thank the superior executives at Fox Video for listening! A double-disk widescreen presentation with plenty of bonus features! Hooray!
Keep in mind that this is one of the greatest films ever made in the 1990s, so influential and new to the extent that it made the British Film Institute’s list of the best 100 films ever made in Ireland and the British Isles during the last century. Yet eerily, I can only count on two hands the number of people who’ve seen it! This has gotta change!

Now the film is issued on DVD as it was meant to be seen — in pudgy stereo and widescreen glory. I like the fact that Fox Video gave this “miniature” portray a chance, that it heard the complaints from rabid fans for years and finally did something about it!…
“The Commitments” is a raucous and delighted celebration of music. It’s a gloriously simple and lovable record, told with passion, profanity, and a deep conception of how music can infect even the most despairing life with joy. About time the movie got its trustworthy release on DVD.
If you’ve never seen “The Commitments” because you cringe at the view of white Dubliners singing American soul tunes, well, I hear ya. I fully expected watered-down music along the lines of Michael Bolton butchering Percy Sledge. However, I was foul - the music, in the context of the movie, is pure and pleasurable, and performed by young actors who understand that you don’t have to pretend to be anything you’re not to gain soul. Besides, Jimmy Rabbitte, the mastermind gradual the band, gives them all a thoroughly convincing speech that assures the lads and lasses from Dublin that they, too, are great to train soul.
The movie - well, it’s unbelievable. Hilarious, free, sometimes spirited, life-affirming. I almost wish the movie let the characters make a petite more before the inevitable and mythical ending, but then Joey the Lips gently reminds me (and Rabbitte), “this contrivance, it’s poetry.” He’s suitable - this is the pleasant ending for these guys, and the movie.

The DVD offers some substantial extras, including a revealing making-of doc, where we learn that director Parker combed the nightclubs of Dublin nightly, looking for current talent. I also worship the 10-years-later feature, where we derive to revisit our stale friends again. These are marvelous extras for a movie that fair wearisome makes you feel jubilant to be alive - how distinguished more can you ask of a movie than that?

When most people explore movies that have been made from books, they usually near away from the movie thinking, “The book is better.”
My maintain response to that comment might be, “They’re aesthetic equal in quality.” With the exception of a few name changes (”Twinkle Drive” in the book becomes “Arcomax” in the movie; from “Louise Fernandez” to “Katherine Alvarez”), the movie follows the set of the book stunning closely. It’s actually one of the first new movies I’ve seen that doesn’t stray that far from the book.
The premise of the movie is an curious one to me. High profile cases, such as the confirmation hearings of Justice Clarence Thomas and the testimony given by Anita Hill, have increased people’s awareness of sexual harassment exponentially. Based upon our personal perceptions and “expectations” of the people around us, we “demand” men to be more sexually aggressive than women and therefore more likely to take in sexual harassment or rape. But what can happen if a man is harassed by a woman? Gape “Disclosure” and get out.
For those of you who have not seen disclosure you are missing quite a bit. It is the narrative of a business man(Michael Douglas) who’s ex girlfriend(Demi Moore) comes to work at his office. In the extreme of events she become his boss and tries to further the relationship. One night in his office she tries to seduce him, even as far as having oral sex with him. After a dinky foreplay he turns her down and goes home to his wife. Well the next day he is charged with sexual harassment. Douglas proceeds to counter the suit. The movie shows the double standards between men and women concerning sexual assult. The audience watched as a once well understanding of man becomes a outcast and a devious woman gets placed on a pedistal. What really makes this keen worth watching is the knowledge that the higher the pedistal the longer the drop. When Demi Moore’s character falls, she falls hard. It’s an excellant movie with a lot of surprises and a sweet kind of justice.
